Eighteen Realms of Phenomena

« Back to Glossary Index

The Eighteen Realms of Phenomena in Buddhist philosophy describe human perception and interaction with the world. They consist of six sense organs (eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind), their corresponding sense objects (form, sound, smell, taste, touch, mental objects), and six consciousnesses arising from their interactions. Together, they illustrate all possible experiences and perceptions.
